My Stance on Recent Hong Kong Anti-Extradition Protests (2019-08-19)
1. I'm aware of the initial reasons for protests.
2. I don't think such reasons have a firm basis.
3. The protest objectives are tainted by interest groups favoring so called democracy or independence.
4. I can tolerate peaceful protests, even though I don't support them on the ground of 2 and 3.
5. Violence by protesters, regardless in revenge for so called police violence or not, is unacceptable and unwise.
Twisted News Endangers The Info Era (2019-05-04)
One may argue that higher information spreading efficiency assists information validation, and thus promotes truth instead of rumors. However, one of the underlying premises is that people have time and interest to follow updates.
Man's search for superiority (Cont.) (2019-03-24)
I suddenly realized an distinction should be drawn between "a search for superiority" and "a pursuit for superiority". The former can be defined as "to find out an superior trait one believes to be existing within itself", while the latter can be defined as "to gain such a trait that is currently known as unacquired".
I came across Classical Adlerian psychology while I was reading Man's Search for Meaning and found out astonishingly how it coincides with my idea developed from the 1st definition. It should be a great pleasure to explore Adlerian's theory.
About Debate & Public Discussion (2019-03-08)
1. A debate or a discussion serves to find out the truth, not to find out a winner.
2. Under premise 1, if any person feels overwhelmingly the eagerness to win, the rigor of reasoning may be compromised, and may lose it by any measure.
3. Stand by the truth, not the crowd.
4. Be pragmatic (may conflict with 3) and avoid disastrous outcome.
5. Keep a stable temperament.
Man's Search For Superiority (2019-02-25)
I find it typical for some people to start an improvised debate but end in meaningless quarrel. Lack of necessary logic or data the root might be, it's the desire to gain advantage over another that drives communication into marshland. Voice rises, tempo accelerates, and yet the desire for truth diminishes.
Political correctness is another example. Social movements may originate from those who suffer inequality or feel suppressed, out of solid reasons. But as movements go on, progressive creeds are echoed exponentially probably because the feeling of being "progressive" or "identified with social trend" is great. Half-baked views are repeated everywhere as if human beings have reached consensus, and eventually become religious but with little scientific basis.
Brag and disdain might also be obvious signs of a man's search for superiority.
